Poster Lust III

Gig posters I wish I had, but either didn't know about or was too slow to grab when they were available. All artwork by Aaron Horkey, except the Arcade Fire poster, by Wes Winship. All were once available at the Burlesque website (check the 'sold out' link, boo-hoo).

Poster Lust II

Stuff I have, most of which still needs to be framed and hung...

Earth and Jesse Sykes co-headlining West Coast tour 2008 (got one from the artist last week–whoo-hoo!)

Poster Lust

After being tucked away in a poster tube and placed in a dank corner of my room for over a year since I first got it, I've finally framed this exquisite piece by artist extraordinaire Aaron Horkey of Burlesque Design. Snagged it at an ISIS gig last year celebrating their 10 years together as one of the most kick ass bands currently rocking the planet.

Speaking of which ISIS singer/guitarist, Hydrahead Industries head honcho and graphic art nerd Aaron Turner, along with Aaron Horkey, Seldon Hunt, and others will be part of the 'Catalyst' group exhibition coming to SF Sept. 4. Da-rool, Da-rool! Info here.

Album of the Week

Sleep, Dopesmoker
The much lauded doom album by San Jose's own. One track, over an hour long. The crushing heaviness of this masterpiece cannot be underestimated.

Another beautiful poster by David D'Andrea for the Earth/Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter show that went down on June 20th at the Great American Music Hall. I wish I'd grabbed one.

Album(s) of the Week

Bass Communion, Loss and Molotov and Haze
Have been listening to a lot of drone/noise/ambient music lately. These two from Steve Wilson's solo project Bass Communion have fit the bill quite nicely during this super slow period at work. Great for zoning out and tuning in, getting stoned naturally, so to speak. Don't do drugs, kids. This shit's waaay better. Kudos to whoever did the Loss artwork. The archival book of the dead photos are wicked creepy.

Lawrence English, Kiri No Oto
Nicely complements the Bass Communion recordings above. The Japanese title loosely translates to the 'sound of fog' or 'sound of mist'. The music ebbs and flows from whispery shimmery drones to sonorous sheets of noise. A great place to start for anyone wishing to explore the ambient genre.
